Class Description

Perfect for adults who are new to roller skating, this 5-week block course provides a safe, supportive, and structured environment where you will learn essential skills and build confidence on wheels. Classes are held on Monday afternoons from 5:30PM - 6:00PM at Middleton Grange Primary School, starting on Monday, 3rd February. Dates: Monday 3rd February Monday 10th February Monday 17th February Monday 24th February Monday 3rd March Why Learn with Canterbury Skating Academy? Roller skating builds confidence, improves overall balance and coordination, and further develops essential motor skills—all while having fun! My classes ensure every skater learns safely at their own pace in a supportive environment. It’s a perfect opportunity to stay active, make new friends, and enjoy an exciting after-work activity, even for first-time skaters with no prior experience. About Me Hi, I’m Alana Caunter, a retired competitive artistic roller skater who represented internationally. I hold Sport Specific Level 2 Solo Dance Accreditation through NZFRS and World Skate Level 1 Solo Dance coaching certifications, recognised worldwide. With a Master’s in Sport Science and a Bachelor in Social Work, I bring a blend of expertise in physical skill development and working with people of all ages. I’m first aid trained, police vetted, and known for my fun, approachable teaching style. I’m passionate about sharing the joy of roller skating and helping people build confidence on wheels! Spaces are limited, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to kickstart your roller skating journey! _____________ FAQs I don't have roller skates yet, can I hire them? No problem! Skate hire is available from US1 - US14. Please confirm skate hire with me prior to classes starting. Do I need to wear protective gear? Yes, a helmet and wrist guards are required. However, you are an adult and I won't force you to wear protective gear if you don't want to. Canterbury Skating Academy does not provide any protective gear. What skills will I learn during the course? Skaters will learn how to fall safely, stand up safety, how to skate forwards, backwards, 360 spins, 2 foot jumps, 1 foot balance, but will go at the skaters pace.
